I studied Graphic Design and Art for four years before deciding to continue my education at Coventry University. Throughout my years of studying Graphic Design and Illustration, I gained good knowledge in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Quark Xpress and also knowledge of Html coding and Flash.
Throughout my third year I was involved with such competition as D&AD, RSA Design Directions and Penguin & Puffin design awards. Being involved with these projects has helped me realise that my strength is with print based design. With each of these briefs I was greatly enhancing my skills by using Photoshop CS4 and Illustrator to make my work look professional, clean and tidy.
In my second year, I was involved with a group of student peers in creating an interactive DVD for a local charity ‘Coventry Mind’. My role within the group was to create an information booklet and also the DVD cover. During that module I learnt to communicate well with the client, but also with fellow designers I was working with. I also learnt about how to budget in regard to printing and producing the final DVDs.
Over the past two years, I have been working for Arcadia Group LTD, as a Topshop Brand Specialist. This involves duties such as dealing with customers, handling money and organising displays. I have really enjoyed this job as we are a fairly busy store and so I have had to become part of a well-knit team where communication is the main priority. Whilst at university, I also have created a small trend brochure for Miss Selfridge as part of my degree; where I took photos of the store’s clothing ranges and applied them to store graphics. I created a sample brochure that would be available to Miss Selfridge customers when entering the store. From my fashion retail experience and my graphic design ambitions I intend to continue both these passions to further my career towards the design department of a major fashion retailer.
I also spent time in the Graphic design suite at ‘KJB Print’ where I acted as an art worker, adjusting designs ready to be printed. I worked alongside graphic designers and directly with clients to create design with purpose. From this experience I enhanced my technical skills with software and communicational skills with clients.
